It's Takin' Me Higher!

Less than a week after my road trip to North Malaysia, I went on a vacation for the second consecutive week, this time to Genting Highlands. This trip was actually quite spontaneous as we did all the planning and bookings a week prior (for those interested, try booking hotels using Agoda).

We planned for a 2D1N trip, starting on the 22nd of July. So on that morning, I woke up at the ungodly hour of 6 am (it's considered very early for us college students haha), and boarded the taxi to Salak Tinggi ERL station to catch the 7 am train to KL Sentral. I remembered that morning the wind was blowing furiously in KTT, and the temperature instantly became very cool and Genting-esque, haha. Then, at the ERL station, I saw more people than usual boarding the train, which surprised me as it was still so effing early, especially for West Malaysians!

At KL Sentral, I met up with Alex, who helped us book the hotel. We had breakfast together at McD. Our original plan of boarding the earliest bus (8 am) up to Genting was scrapped, as Mei Yen and her friends, Chun Mei and Bobby were running late due to the crappy KTM so they had to take the LRT at Sungai Besi and transit to Masjid Jamek before reaching KL Sentral, but luckily they were all in time to catch the 9 am bus. We bought the bus ticket with a package which included transit by cable car and a choice of either buffet lunch or a ticket to the outdoor theme park (picking one was a no brainer).

After about an hour or so, we arrived at the cable car station. After getting off the bus, the change in climate could be felt instantly, and we were not even at the peak yet! It was very much like a cool morning, just the right degree of cool. Haha. Since it was a weekday, we did not have to wait in a long line to be able to get on a cable car. Riding on a cable car was a very new experience for me (I did ride a cable car before, so far back that I can't even recall how it felt haha). We were able to see the rainforest and the occasional monkey from the inside.

Upon reaching the peak, we headed to our hotel, Theme Park Hotel. We booked a Deluxe room, at a rate of RM 203 ++ a night. The room was surprisingly quite well furnished for a hotel that was considered quite old, with a twin bed and a single bed, and it definitely trumps what First World Hotel has to offer at about the same price. Since there were five of us, we took down the top layer of the queen bed and split it into two sleeping surfaces, Alex and I on one, and Bobby and Mei on another (couple ma haha). Mei Yen therefore had the single bed all to herself! Haha.

We headed down to the outdoor theme park after that. It was noon and the weather was surprisingly quite hot for a place like Genting. We got on so many rides that I could hardly recall, but those worth mentioning were the Corkscrew (roller coaster), bumper boat (waited about an hour in line), the Spiderman roller coaster (simulates flying like Superman but I've got no idea why they use a Spiderman motive) and the horrifying Space Shot (a must try, but not for the weak of heart!). As always, photo shooting sessions are inevitable and you can visit my Facebook page for more photos. We exited the theme park at its closing time, about 7 pm.

Space shot! Felt like my guts were gonna come out of my mouth

In the hotel room, we held a surprise birthday celebration for Mei Yen, two days earlier. Bobby and Mei bought the cake under the pretense of going out for some alone time. The cake was small, but the smile on Mei Yen's face wasn't. :)

Our night in Genting was quite uneventful. We just took a stroll round the Indoor theme park, and that was about it. However, the best part of the night was, after Bobby and Mei went out for some alone time again, the rest of us went to the garden below our hotel to enjoy the chilly night breeze and the view of the entire place shrouded in mist. It was so cold that I zipped my jacket all the way up. However, the cold weather and the mist just brought me a sense of inner peace instantly, a feeling that I hadn't enjoyed for a long time. We had a good time, chatting with each other while enjoying the breeze, before retreating back to the room to play Big 2 with the others.

Next morning wasn't that eventful too. It can be summed up by, breakfast, garden visit, checkout, and bus ride back to KL Sentral. Despite parting ways after a lunch of wantan mee at Petaling Street, I had some gut feeling that all of this, this jetsetting lifestyle and all that shit, wasn't about to end so fast. ;)
