Malacca, Take 2

At last, after one month of toil and labour, my AS examination has finally come to an end! Now I'm writing this post from the comfort and privacy of my bedroom at home, all thanks to Wifi system set up my dad few months back. Ahh. Time to kick back and enjoy a wholesome week at home.

Now, FYI, during my AS, there were some big gaps between papers, some even as long as a week! So, Alex, Aly and I decided to tag along with Mei Yen (Yvon), who's a Malacca native, back to her home. I decided to join the trip despite the ongoing exams because there was like about five days to the next paper, and because all the remaining papers were MCQ questions, which I could "open fire" blindly if I really really cannot make anything out of the question. Plus, I saw this as one of the very last times I could go all out and have as much fun as possible with my friends from the one year program, who have completed their A2 by that time (except for Aly, who was repeating for Bio).

So, on the 3rd, we all boarded Alex's car (which was borrowed from his brother) and began our hour-or-so long trip down to Malacca. Alex's steady driving brought us safely to Yvon's house in the Alor Gajah area, which is about 30 minutes drive from Malacca city itself. For us Sibu people, it's like driving to town from your home in Sibu Jaya around the airport! And Yvon's residential area does resemble something like Sibu Jaya, single storied houses and all that. Haha.

After setting up our bed for the night and waiting for Yvon to finish showering and dress up, we headed towards our next destination, which was the Portuguese Settlement to have our dinner. But not before picking up, who else, but my big sis from MMMC at Bukit Baru (she said I became thinner, bad news for me, haha).

We had seafood for dinner there. Dinner was so-so only, and not filling at all. After my sis's friend came to pick her up, we made our way to Menara Taming Sari so that Aly, who has never been to Malacca before, can enjoy the view of Malacca city during night time. Tickets were RM 15 per head and it came with muffins and juice for each. How delightable. Haha.

After the ride, we made our way to the Jetty, located at Holiday Inn, to meet Xi Xing, and also to enjoy the view of the sea at night.

We didn't stay for long as we had to catch the 10:30 pm show of "Kung Fu Panda 2" at Dataran Pahlawan. The movie was, sorry to say, extremely lame and childish for me, while the other three liked it. Hmm, have I grown past the age of enjoying cartoons already? I wonder. Haha. It took us until 2 am to finally get to bed after driving back to Yvon's house and showering, and for me the first night sleeping somewhere unfamiliar is always the toughest night. I reckon I'd only got around less than five total hours of REM sleep that night. Haha.

Next morning, I was woken up by the smell of food! Haha. Yvon's mom made us some sort of pancakes for breakfast, which only Alex and I ate. Then, Alex dropped me at a nearby mall, where my sis and her friends came to pick me up, and we went our separate ways. My sis and I went, in this order, to have dim sum, Jonker 88 to have cendol, and Nadeje to have cakes. I was stuffed to the brim. *Pukes*

After our gluttonous excursion, we headed to Dataran Pahlawan as my sis wanted to do some shopping. So I decided to watch "X-Men: First Class" by myself. From there my sis and I parted ways.

This time, I was not disappointed. "X-Men: First Class" is THE best film of the year so far! I would go so far to say that it's the best comic adaptation since "The Dark Knight" back in 2008.

After finishing my movie, I went to Makhota Parade, which was just across the street, to meet up with Alex, Aly, Yvon and Xi Xing. We went to a shop just next to Nadeje to have pork satay, except for Aly, who could only eat the chicken satay. Haha. Then, we went to a nearby hair saloon, Team Hair, as Aly and I wanted a haricut, but I freaked out at the price of RM 38 so we waited almost an hour for Aly to finish his. After that, we went round the area where A Famosa was situated, and we began a photography session, which you can see from my Facebook page.

As we finished, we intended to head to the Jonker Street night market, held only on weekends to have our dinner, but the weather had other plans. So, we all had to go back to Yvon's house and we took our showers (except for Xi Xing), which was one of the most refreshing showers I have ever had. Haha.

After we all finished bathing, the rain stopped! Thank God! So we made our way to Jonker again, but Alex took a little wrong turn and we ended up getting stuck in traffic for more than half an hour, behind MP. After reaching Jonker, there wasn't much left to eat, as it was near closing time, so we made do with some char kway teow and laksa, After a brief walk in Jonker, we strolled around Stadthuys and Aly's favourite building in all of Malacca, Casa del Rio hotel, not forgetting to snap more pics.

Again. we headed to Jetty to enjoy the breeze and the smell of salt water. When it was all said and done, we went to bed at 3 am (!). One sight that amazed me was seeing people line up at Capitol satay celup at 2 effing am in the morning! Wow!

The next morning I woke up at about 8 am. Great. I was experiencing sleep deprivation. Alex woke up the latest, after 9 am, which was perfectly understandable, as he had to drive us about. We all went to Gajah Berang to have our breakfast at, of all places, KFC, instead of the hawker stalls, because we are such considerate people. Hahaha. Then, Yvon went to church, while the rest of us and Xi Xing went to the Hang Li Po well, followed by a visit to the Baba and Nyonya heritage museum, which Aly enjoyed. After picking up Yvon from church, we headed to Melaka Raya to have our lunch at a nyonya restaurant, Makko.

After our lunch and dropping Yvon off, the rest of us headed back to KTT.

Despite not studying for almost three days, I absolutely had no regrets at all in joining this trip. Everything bout the trip was as good as it gets, from the people, to the lodging and transport. I hope all of us will be able to travel again someday, which will probably in Europe, when I might go over and pay a visit. This trip will go down as one of the best moments in my college life.
