I got so excited when I heard that a sequel was made. The news that War Machine was making an appearance only fueled my excitement. Naturally, I expected it to be as good as the first one. So last night, I got the chance to determine it for myself as I went to watch Iron Man 2.

After the events of the first film, Tony Stark has been enjoying life after he revealed his identity as Iron Man. However, he is constantly being pressured to hand over the secrets of the suit to the government. His newfound fame also makes him some new rivals, Ivan Vanko and Justin Hammer. Stark learns how to confront his new foes while trying to set his life on the right track.
Now, there are a few thing I want to critique about this movie. Like Transformers 2, this film has a few moments of excessive and meaningless dialogue. Some parts of the film were made to look comedic, even though it wasn't. There was also a little too much comedy for an action film.
All of these did not happen in the classic first film. Also, I preferred that Terrence Howard, who played Rhodey in the first film to reprise this role as War Machine. I did not like the increased role of Happy Hogan (Stark's driver), played by the director of the film. He should have just stayed low like his role in the first film.
One negative review from Rotten Tomatoes pretty much sums up what I said:
Iron Man was a rare blockbuster that stayed with you -- the sequel all but evaporates the moment it cuts to black.-Simon Reynolds, Digital Spy
However, this film isn't really that bad. Still, like T2, there were many elements I loved. The appearance of the War Machine armor, new armor designs (the briefcase armor was awesome), and of course, Robert Downey Jr. who is a really great actor and he alone makes this film worth watching.
All in all, this film is not as good as the first (a true classic), but it'll do and you won't be disappointed if your hopes aren't too high like me.
Rating: 4/5
P.S. I heard there is a scene after the credits, like the first, which is related to the upcoming movie Thor, due for release next year. But if you are watching it in Sibu, I don't think this scene is available for your viewing... Oh well... :D
